Best Freshdesk Alternatives in 2026: 7 Tools Compared

Freshdesk alternatives hero

A Freshdesk alternative is any helpdesk or AI support platform that replaces Freshdesk or its Freddy AI add-ons. The strongest options in 2026 are the IrisAgent Helpdesk, Zoho Desk, Zendesk, Intercom, Help Scout, HubSpot Service Hub, and Gorgias. If AI is the real problem, IrisAgent can also run on top of Freshdesk with validated accuracy above 95%, live in about 24 hours, so you may not need to migrate at all.

Freshdesk is still a good helpdesk. Its seats start low, and its ticketing is easy to run. 2026 reviews and roundups keep pointing to the same line on the invoice: AI. So this guide compares seat prices, then works out what each tool costs once an AI agent handles real volume. Prices were checked on vendor pricing pages in November 2026, on annual billing unless noted. This guide covers customer support, not Freshservice and IT service management.

Why teams look for Freshdesk alternatives

The reasons are specific, and each points to a different replacement:

  • AI cost moves separately from seats. Freddy AI Agent includes 500 free sessions once per account, then costs $49 per 100 sessions. Freddy AI Copilot adds $29 per agent per month on Pro and Enterprise.

  • Chat AI needs a different plan. Freshdesk's help center says the Chat AI Agent is available only in Freshdesk Omni, which costs $29, $79, or $119 per agent instead of $19, $55, or $89.

  • Features sit behind tiers. Advanced routing and CSAT start at Pro, so the $19 Growth price is rarely the price a growing team ends up paying.

  • Freddy stays inside Freshworks. If you ever change helpdesks, your AI setup does not move with you.

The 7 best Freshdesk alternatives

1. IrisAgent Helpdesk

Choose this if you are leaving Freshdesk because you want AI at the center of the desk, not added to it. The IrisAgent Helpdesk puts live chat, WhatsApp, email, phone, and SMS in one inbox, and its AI agent answers first from your knowledge base, past tickets, and procedures. Chat does not require a plan change, because every channel is on the same $35 seat. When the AI hands off, the agent gets the transcript and captured details.

Where Freshdesk still wins: a far larger app marketplace and a longer track record as a standalone helpdesk. IrisAgent's AI features are also a separate line, so get that number in writing before comparing totals.

2. Zoho Desk

Zoho Desk is the most direct replacement. Departments, SLAs, a help center, and step-by-step blueprints will feel familiar to a Freshdesk admin, and the seat price undercuts Freshdesk at every comparable level. It suits a cost-driven move where AI is not the main reason. Watch for: its value is highest for companies already running other Zoho apps, and phone support needs a separate Zoho Voice subscription.

3. Zendesk

Zendesk is the step up, not the cost-saving move. It gives larger teams a deeper marketplace and a more mature multi-team structure than Freshdesk. Watch for: the AI line. Automated resolutions cost $1.50 each on a commitment or $2.00 pay as you go, on top of seats that start about three times the price of Freshdesk Growth. Our guide to Zendesk alternatives covers the same market from the other side.

4. Intercom

Intercom fits teams whose support happens inside their product, with polished in-app messaging and Fin as its AI agent. Unlike Freddy's chat agent, Fin does not require a separate omnichannel plan family. Watch for: Advanced is $85 per seat, and every Fin outcome adds $0.99, so the bill grows as the AI succeeds. Teams built around email and phone get less of the value.

5. Help Scout

Help Scout has the most transparent public math on this list: a free plan for five users, simple per-user tiers, and AI Answers at $0.75 per resolution. It gives small teams an inbox that feels like email. Watch for: Freshdesk's automation rules and SLA structure go further, so a team that relies heavily on them may feel the loss.

6. HubSpot Service Hub

If sales and marketing already run on HubSpot, keeping tickets on the same contact record is the main reason to move, and that benefit is real. Starter is inexpensive, while Professional at about $90 per seat costs well above Freshdesk Pro. Watch for: it rarely wins on support features alone, so the case depends on how much of your business already lives in HubSpot.

7. Gorgias

Gorgias is the specialist pick for Shopify brands. Agents can see and edit orders from the ticket, and pricing follows ticket volume, not seats, so adding agents does not raise the bill. Watch for: seasonal peaks raise it instead, and B2B or SaaS teams will use little of what makes it good.

What Freddy sessions really cost next to per-resolution pricing

This is the comparison most Freshdesk alternatives lists skip. Freddy bills by session. Most competitors bill by resolution. Those units count different things, so the sticker prices cannot be compared directly.

A Freddy session is a time window: 24 hours from the start of a chat conversation, or 72 hours from a customer's first email. All AI replies inside that window count once, which is generous for long threads. But the window is defined by time, and Freshdesk's add-on documentation does not tie the charge to whether the AI solved anything.

At $0.49 per session, your real cost per resolved conversation depends on your resolution rate:

AI resolution rate

Freddy cost per resolved conversation

30%

$1.63

50%

$0.98

70%

$0.70

Credit where it is due: above a resolution rate of about 50%, Freddy is cheaper per resolved conversation than Fin at $0.99. Above about 65%, it beats Help Scout at $0.75. It beats Zendesk's $1.50 committed rate above about 33%. A team with a strong knowledge base can do well on sessions. A team with a thin one pays for the conversations the AI could not finish, as well as the ones it could.

Modeling a 20-agent team at real AI volume

Here is one workload priced across the tools with public numbers: 20 agents and 5,000 AI-handled conversations a month, assuming a 50% resolution rate (2,500 resolved). The resolution rate is our assumption, so replace it with your own. Totals ignore one-time free sessions and any included allotments, and the plans shown are not identical in features.

Two conclusions hold up. First, AI is more than half the bill in every fully priced row, so the seat price is the wrong number to shop on. Second, moving from Freshdesk to a per-resolution vendor does not automatically save money at a 50% resolution rate: Intercom comes out slightly above Freshdesk Omni here. Our AI chatbot pricing guide covers the broader pricing models. IrisAgent does not publish a per-conversation rate, so ask for this exact model in writing and hold every vendor to it, including us.

The other option: stay on Freshdesk and replace Freddy

If your agents like Freshdesk and the frustration is the AI, a migration may solve the wrong problem. IrisAgent for Freshworks runs on top of Freshdesk, so tickets, automations, and reporting stay put. Standard plans start at $500 per month. The head-to-head comparison with Freddy has the feature detail, and Keep Your Helpdesk, Add IrisAgent explains how an overlay works in general.

How to move off Freshdesk

Freshdesk's structure has its own traps. If you do migrate, work through these in order:

  1. Audit the three automation types. Ticket creation, ticket update, and time-trigger rules each fire differently. List them all, and retire any rule nobody on the team can explain.

  2. Review Scenario Automations and canned responses. These bulk actions are often where agents' real shortcuts live, and they tend to get forgotten until the first week on the new desk.

  3. Map custom ticket statuses and SLA policies. Check how each custom status behaves in the new tool, especially whether it pauses the SLA clock.

  4. Export tickets, contacts, companies, and Solutions articles. Test one month of history in the new system first to confirm that attachments and private notes survive.

  5. Use Solutions articles as your AI's starting knowledge. Fix outdated articles before importing them, because an AI agent will repeat them confidently.

  6. Check your Freshworks commitments. If you also run Freshsales, Freshchat, or Freshservice, confirm what changes when Freshdesk goes away.

  7. Move one queue first. Run a single team or channel for two weeks, compare resolution quality and CSAT against your Freshdesk baseline, and then cut over.

  • Your resolution rate is high and your session bill is predictable: staying on Freddy may be the right call.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best alternative to Freshdesk?

It depends on why you are leaving. The IrisAgent Helpdesk fits teams that want AI answering first on every channel. Zoho Desk is the closest like-for-like swap at a lower seat price, and Zendesk suits larger operations that need more structure. If only the AI is the problem, you can keep Freshdesk and add IrisAgent on top.

Who are Freshdesk's main competitors?

Freshdesk's main competitors are Zendesk, Zoho Desk, Intercom, Help Scout, HubSpot Service Hub, and Salesforce Service Cloud, with Gorgias competing for ecommerce teams. Newer AI-first helpdesks such as the IrisAgent Helpdesk compete on AI resolution, not on ticketing features.

How much does Freddy AI cost?

Freddy AI Copilot costs $29 per agent per month as an add-on on Pro and Enterprise. Freddy AI Agent includes 500 free sessions once per account, then costs $49 per 100 sessions, or $0.49 per session. Freshdesk's Chat AI Agent is available only in Freshdesk Omni, which has higher seat prices. Check Freshworks' pricing page for current figures.

Is session pricing better than per-resolution pricing?

It depends on your resolution rate. At $0.49 per session, Freddy costs about $0.98 per resolved conversation at a 50% resolution rate and about $1.63 at 30%. Session pricing favors teams with a strong knowledge base and a high resolution rate. Per-resolution pricing protects teams whose AI resolves less, because unresolved conversations do not trigger that fee.

Can I replace Freddy AI without leaving Freshdesk?

Yes. IrisAgent runs on top of Freshdesk through its Freshworks integration, so your tickets, automations, and reporting stay where they are. It answers from your knowledge base and past tickets, and most teams go live in about 24 hours. Standard plans start at $500 per month, with usage-based and resolution-based pricing options.
